Misty found this interview that a woman did from the cancelled soap mania tour stop that was cancelled. Thanks for finding Misty.
Most of the world knows Jacob Young as the infamous character JR Chandler on the ABC soap opera "All My Children." But on a recent Thursday, he was a doting dad shopping at a Los Angeles baby supply store with his wife, Christen Steward.
It is this softer side that Young hopes Memphis fans will get to see when he comes to town next week as part of the Soap Opera Mania tour. The interactive event is March 7 at the Memphis Cook Convention Center. Registration starts at 9:30 a.m., and activities run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The tickets are $95 and are available online at celebrityeventsgroup.com/store or by calling (866) 364-0330.
At the daylong fan fair, guests will mingle with soap actress Alicia Minshew (Kendall Hart on "All My Children") and seven of the sexiest men on daytime television- Brandon Beemer (Owen Knight on "The Bold and the Beautiful"), John Brotherton (Jared Banks on "One Life to Live"), Greg Vaughan (Lucky Spencer on "General Hospital"), Christian LeBlanc (Michael Baldwin on "The Young and the Restless"), James Scott (E.J. Wells on "Days of Our Lives"), John-Paul Lavoisier (Rex Balsom on "One Life to Live") and Young.
Along with Q&A and autograph sessions, there will be trivia contests and behind-the-scenes scoops from set directors, and selected fans will get to act out scenes onstage with daytime stars.
"They're going to be able to see how real we really are," said Young, during a phone interview.
Nicknamed the "Blond Bomber" by family members, this soap opera pretty boy once pumped gas as a station attendant in his hometown of Tillamook, Ore. His first major break in soaps came in 1997 when he was cast as Rick Forrester on the CBS show "The Bold and the Beautiful."
From 2000 to 2003, he took up the role of Lucky Spencer on ABC's "General Hospital." That performance earned him recognition as People magazine's "Sexiest Soap Star" in 2001 and a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Younger Actor in 2002. For the past six years, he has starred as the cunning JR Chandler on "All My Children."
"I think the one side maybe that we all haven't seen is for JR to become a master villain," said Young, when asked about the character. "I mean, he's been involved in some schemes and plots, but he's never been 100 percent a bad guy."
A real-life good guy, Young, 29, is effervescent when he talks about his 3-month-old son, Luke. He said Luke is the best thing that ever happened to him, and fans on the soap tour are offering parenting advice and baby gifts.
"They're welcomed, of course," he added.
If the gift-giving trend continues, Young will end the tour with enough bears and knitted blankets to fill his own baby supply superstore. Memphis is the fifth stop on the tour that is scheduled to hit 40 cities across the U.S. and Canada.
Organized by Mike Gold, president of Celebrity Events Group, the tour makes the stars accessible to their fans.
"The thing about this tour that's so amazing is that the fans are going to get to touch them and to hug them and pose for pictures with them," said Gold.
Gold said these types of interactive events are especially critical now as the soap opera industry grapples with ways to boost declining viewership.
"That's what's going to help the soap opera industry is fans meeting the characters, getting to know them," he said. "Then you can't wait to go home and see them on TV."
