This is also posted in the spoiler section, but in both magazines, editors offered some comment on the story, and I feel somewhat validated, with my outrage.
From SOD:
The Babe/JR/Richie triangle gets the Thumbs Down It's titled Three of a Bind, and the editor asks, is it just us, or this triangle a dud? They note that JR and Babe have a compelling and rich history, but such damage was done during McTavish's reign and the current writers haven't exactly gotten them back on track yet. Then there was a recast, and that interrupted the romantic flow. Then there's Richie. Richie was ill conceived from the start, making the character fall short of the electrafying villian he was supposed to be. Now what little humanity the trio's tale possessed has been undercut by the far fetched twist that JR was actually his donor, which is unrealistic enough, but then Richie had to kidnap JR, and take the marrow against JR's will? The show would be wise to reassess the direction in which this plot is going, or cut it's losses altogether. amen. kill Richie off, and let JR have the girl. Even if it's Babe. IMO, nothing can redeem Richie. He's done to much, and I'm sorry won't cut it.
Even better, is the commentary from SOW, which falls on the same page as the Chandler storyline stuff:
I'm well aware of the "ups and downs" of Babe and JR's relationship. That being said, the former baby snatcher really shouldn't throw stones. JR promised to do a very unselfish thing (donating bone marrow) for a man he hates. But when JR suddenly disappeared, Babe automatically assumed he was up to no good. Where was her concern? He could have been dead on the side of the road! C'mon Babe. The man was ready to give up part of his body to Richie just to make you happy. Give him a little credit. Thank you thank you thank you thank you.
I sent in letters and emails, and I'm hoping other viewers did as well, but I'm so glad the editors of both mags commented on this, what with the focus on Angie/Jesse, Ryan's amnesia and the adventures of Greenlee. I was beginning to think no one noticed that JR was victimized.
